Java Tsunami Warning Cancelled

Seismologists have cancelled a tsunami alert they issued after an earthquake in the Indian Ocean south of Java, which they said had a magnitude of 7.1.

The Meteorology and Geophysics Agency sent an SMS on its public alert system on Monday saying that a warning it had issued after the tremor, which it put at 10 kilometres deep, “has ended.”

The US Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre had said that there was no risk of a widespread destructive wave, but that there was a “very small possibility of a local tsunami.”
